2018 Gold Quill Awards call for entries is now open!

If you’re thinking of having a crack at entering the 2018 Gold Quill Awards and don’t know where to start, come meet Saania Habeeb and other experts at our free Gold Quill Awards Roundtable on Thursday 19 October.

We recently caught up Saania, who graduated last year with a Bachelor of Communications (Public Relations) from Deakin University – and an IABC Gold Quill Award for her campaign, Topsy Turvy Day!

Saania, let’s start with the exciting stuff – what was it like going to Washington for the awards ceremony and meeting all those communication superstars?

It was an incredible experience! I never thought a university assignment would end up taking me all the way to Washington DC and such distinguished company! It’s incredibly motivating when communications professionals from across the world offer their congratulations and give you support and encouragement for the future. It was a great opportunity for me to broaden my professional network as well as witness all the superb work the communications industry is developing and producing.

Taking a step back now – what made you decide to enter your Topsy Turvy Day campaign?

My lecturer Ross Monaghan approached me with the idea. Initially I was nervous about putting myself out there, but what made me take the plunge was the fact that my work would be assessed by communication professionals from around the world and I would receive comprehensive feedback. I believed the feedback would allow me to improve and hone in on any weak areas, and also give me an idea as to how my PR skills were assessed by professionals in the industry. There was also a small part of me that was excited by the prospect of visiting another country!

What would you say to students thinking about making a submission?

I encourage everyone to enter as it’s such an amazing opportunity. First off have a look at the resources available online and go through the requirements for a student entry.  Find an assignment or project that fit the requirements and begin preparations; you can enter group projects too! The entry guide is your best friend follow it *very* carefully. Hope to meet you all at the free Gold Quill Awards Roundtable where I can offer more tips and advice!
