Damien’s Download: Four ways to make your mark

DB200IABC Victoria President, Damien Batey discusses four ways you can build your career with IABC Victoria.

It’s November. We’re all starting to think about the end of the year and, in just one more sleep, we’ll be having a day off for a horse race.

If you’re sitting there wondering what else you can do to fulfill your professional and personal development needs in 2015, fortunately IABC Victoria has the answers.

1.    Join us during the extended IABC member month

Did you miss the deadline for our October IABC Member Month? Never fear. IABC has decided to extend member month until the end of November. IABC is waving the $40 membership joining fee for anyone joining or re-joining before November 30. We’re also offering a further 10 per cent discount on your international dues component. This applies to individual, corporate and student memberships and represents one of the best discounts we’ve been able to offer for some time. At the risk of sounding like a late night infomercial, I feel obliged to tell you to “get in quick”. Please note that, while member month is extended, the prize draws offered by both IABC globally and IABC Victoria are now closed. If you’d like to join or re-join IABC Victoria, simply go here.

2.    Consider joining our board

IABC Victoria has been blessed to have been led by some of the most gifted and hardworking members of the communication profession over recent years. Over this time the local chapter has grown and flourished with the support of a vibrant professional community across the state.

With a number of serving board members approaching the end of their terms there’s a great opportunity ahead for new talent to set the future direction of our chapter in 2016. For further information please contact Zora Artis at zoraartis@yahoo.com.au or me at Damien.batey@motorolasolutions.com. We would be pleased to discuss the various portfolios available and what you would like to get out of board membership. Nominations close on 8 January, 2016.

 3.    Celebrate with friends and colleagues

In a year full of memorable events there’s one more for you to mark in your diary – our annual end-of-year celebration. We’re hosting our event on Tuesday 24 November with IABC global chair Michael Ambjorn delivering a presentation on the trends shaping our profession globally. It will be a night for networking and fun with a trivia night hosted by David Henderson from our professional partners, Coral Communications.

I hope to see you there.

4. Fire up your online learning

There’s a host of powerful learning opportunities happening online over November. These include multi-session online workshops and single session webinars covering a wide range of useful topics for global communicators. A real feature of our webinar program right now is the IABC Best of Show series. The Best of Show webinar series is a global virtual learning experience that takes some of the most highly rated sessions from the World Conference and brings them directly to communication professionals. The program builds on the success of this year’s event and offers participants access to the best presentations from 2015’s conference. For those who have never attended an IABC World Conference, it provides the opportunity to preview the kind of high-quality learning to be expected at the 2016 event in New Orleans. You can see our full webinar and workshop program right here. Don’t forget when you’re booking to:

  • Quote the discount code BOSCHAPTERS if you’re an IABC member booking a Best of Show webinar. This will get you a 10% discount off the registration cost.
  • Convert the times listed for each event to your local time.

Take care,

Cheers,

Damien
