The annual IABC Victoria Gala on the 6 June definitely hit new heights this year as not only did we celebrate at Melbourne’s highest venue, the wonderfully impressive SkyDeck at Eureka Tower, but we also hosted the ever clever Lucy Marcus.
With drinks flowing and lights glowing, the effervescent crowd hummed with the whir of a well-oiled comms machine! Old friends caught up, new acquaintances were made and everyone admired the view while rocking out to a vast array of “Communications” themed songs.
The Top songs of the night included;
- Call me maybe – Carly Rae Jespsen
- Jive Talkin’ – the Bee Gees
- More than words – Extreme
- I heard it through the grapevine – Marvin Gaye
- Little lies – Fleetwood Mac
- A little less conversation a little more action
- Video killed the radio star – The Buggles
- Shout – tears for fears
The celebrations continued as we congratulated best practice in Communications – and recognised excellence on a global scale through the Bronze and Gold Quill awards. We Victorians were made proud by our peers who will be acknowledged in New York, next week: Paula Hurley from Medibank Private, Dene Cicci, Medibank Health Solutions, Troy Hunter, Telstra, Danielle Bond, Aurecon and our President, Monika Lancucki, Becton.
Lucy Marcus took to the stage is known to many for her amazing list of credentials (go on, goggle her!) among which is founder and CEO of Marcus Venture Consulting. She is ranked by Time Magazine as one of the 140 Best Twitter Feeds of 2013, awarded the 2011 Thinkers 50 Future Thinkers Award, was voted one of 6 of “Britain’s Best Connected Women” in the UK Institute of Directors’ Director Magazine, and was ranked 19th in the Reuters & Klout 50 Most Influential Execs on the Web.
Lucy openly discussed ‘inside the boardroom’ and how communicators can actively and successfully engage with boards better. She then took on the audience questions which provided for a robust discussion on all things governance, boards, engagement and communications.
