From new IABC Victoria President, Zora Artis.
Welcome to the first newsletter from your new Board. We are very fortunate to have such an incredibly talented and enthusiastic team of professionals join IABC Victoria’s Board. I’d like to thank those that have retired from the Board for their dedication and contribution over the past twelve months.
In particular, I would like to thank our Immediate Past President, Monika Lancucki. She has guided IABC Victoria forward over a busy year and will be invaluable in her continuing postion. You can read Monika's final President's Report here.
For those of you whom I have not met or spoken with as yet, my name is Zora Artis, and I am honoured to be President of IABC Victoria for the next 12 months. I joined the Victorian chapter a few years ago after I left agency land where I held a number of senior strategy and group account director roles with advertising, integrated marcoms and branding firms. What I found at the IABC was a true sense of community, openness to a broad cross-section of communicators and a willingness to share knowledge. Over the past few years, the IABC has enabled me to expand my network amongst communicators at all levels across the globe, and being on this Board has been an enriching experience from a personal and professional development perspective.
I run my own strategic consulting business providing a range of services to creative agencies and to businesses in-house. Having worked on both sides of the fence means that I ‘get it’ – I understand the world of the agency, brand, corporates and government. When I'm not working, I also juggle a family life with my husband and two sons, as well as other non-profit voluntary commitments. My life is certainly not boring.
Enough about me. Let me introduce you to our new Board and their portfolios:

There is one very important vacancy on the Board, which is the Membership Chair. This is a role that engages with our members – be they individual or corporate members – to ensure that we are delivering value and meeting expectations. We are calling on members to nominate for the role by contacting me directly either by email at firstname.lastname@example.org or by phone on 0410 56 56 25.
We also have a number of volunteers who very kindly help out with a number of the portfolios as the need arises. Should you wish to volunteer then please contact either Damien Batey or myself to chat further.
As a new Board we are currently transitioning into our portfolios and will be meeting in mid-October to pull together the strategy for 2014. We invite you to drop us a line, or give me a call, to let us know if there are any areas that you would like us to focus on in our events calendar, content, services or communications.
A busy end to the year
Turning to the rest of 2013 we certainly have a busy schedule ahead. As part of the many networking, information, educational and thought leadership opportunities we offer to members, the IABC is running a packed schedule of exciting events to close out the year.
On the 19th of September we will be hosting an event to release the results of Australia’s most comprehensive study of internal communications by Coral Communications. This event is free to those who participated in the survey as well as to IABC members. There is a nominal fee for non-members. A copy of the report will be available at the event. If you have not secured your place then please do so here.
In October we will be running an IC master class and workshop, the details of which will be released in the coming weeks. And, in November, IABC will run a free member-only webinar, “How to build your communications career”, with the internationally renowned corporate communications leader from New York Mark Schumann. Additionally, the International Executive Board Chair of the IABC, and Leader of Employee Engagement and Internal Communications at Dell, Robin McCasland, will also be town to meet the local members and share her expertise. Once the details are confirmed we will let you know.
On the technology front, IABC is currently undertaking a major overhaul of their servers, database and the website. There have been a few technical glitches along the way, and if you have experienced any issues with membership renewals or communications, then please let us know.
In the meantime it’s September in Melbourne so I hope you enjoy the finals season. Unfortunately my team is now out (yes I am a Tigers fan), but I will join in with most Victorians to barrack for the underdog (whoever that ends up being).
