The internet is an amazing resource to find almost anything we need. As comms practitioners, most of us rely on the internet to fact-check, research, share and connect.

We asked a couple of our current Board members which websites they rely on for their ‘comms gold’. Are these sites you use too? Did we miss the holy grail of comms websites? Let us know in the comments!

1. Communications Leadership Council – It’s member-only website, but a great resource for PR pros
2. Opinion pieces published in the Australian – my favourite place to read them (and also submit them, although never typically in my name. FYI – check out this one)

In addition to the usual business press, like the AFR and Australian, I go to:

The conversation: An online platform with really well considered ideas and arguments exploring contemporary issues. It’s addictive.

Hotcopper: everyone looks down their nose at this site, but it’s just perfect for a little bit of gossip and lots of chat on company announcements and fundamentals, which can, surprisingly, come in handy.

Reddit: I used to think this was only for those conspiracy theorists and debaters of all news, but for those who are new-ish to Melbourne it’s actually got quite a good section on culture and life down here.

Social
Social media aggregator Hootsuite is my go-to site for all-things social. Although it has just dropped Instagram from its monitoring capabilities, I’m able to keep up with my general newsfeeds (and tailored keyword searches) for LinkedIn, Twitter and Facebook, all through the one platform.

Online
Mainstream sites like news.com.au and The Age for general news, and The Aus and AFR for industry-specific news. I also keep my eye on a few sporting websites and have subscriptions to the AFL.com.au and  NBA.com.
